What gets us out of bed in the morning?

That indescribable feeling of creating spaces that are beautiful and inviting. But... beautiful and inviting spaces don't start with colourful cushions and beautiful bedlinen. Creating a sense of "home" starts with a whole lotta love for what we do and how we do it."

Phoebe Bell - Founder and Creative Director of Sage x Clare.

Our Ethos

We believe our best work flows from a commitment to doing things well and with pride.

We pursue excellence and recognise that excellence is journey of progress and continuous improvement. As we grow, how we work continues to evolve. This page is a little snapshot of some exciting improvements in the works.

Our team

Our aim is to foster an environment where everyone feels at home. Sure, our office is super cosy and yep ... you can take your shoes off (if that's your thing). But more than this, it's about belonging.

  • Diversity

We dive deep into training on Diversity and Inclusion. We spend time as a team immersing ourselves in broader cultural experiences to broaden our understanding of the many different people who make up our wonderful community.

  • Safety

We instil a 'safety first' culture covering everything from warehouse safety best practice to emergency management procedures.

  • Development

We mentor and develop team members with new opportunities and leadership training. From helping out on interesting projects to internal secondments that cover another team member's leave, there is no shortage of learning opportunities available.

Our Design Philosophy

We're all about that slow style movement.

We do our best to minimise waste by designing with intention. We want our products to withstand the test of time, physically and aesthetically. Here’s a little overview of how we achieve this:

Natural

We use premium natural fibres like cotton and linen. Not only do they feel amazing, but they also get even better with time.

Remnants and recycled materials

Where possible, we use remnant fabrics and fill made from recycled and upcycled materials. It's our little way of giving new life to items destined for landfill. Our pouch sets, scrunchies and baby change mats to name a few.

Timeless design

We focus on designs that you’ll love today, tomorrow and for years to come.

Conscious production for conscious consumers

Shopping sustainably usually means a lot of extra time spent researching and making sure your choices are good ones. At Sage and Clare, we’re working hard behind the scenes so you can rest easy when shopping with us.

  • Suppliers

Ethical and sustainable production is something close to our hearts. We are always seeking new and improved ways to reduce waste and consider the impact to our most precious resources like water. We're picky about how our products are made and choose to work with industry accredited production teams committed to regular auditing. We've created our own Code of Conduct for supply partners too which all must sign and adhere too. Our Code of Conduct ensures we only work with suppliers who prioritise safe & hygienic working conditions, employees receive a living wage, no child or forced labour is involved in the production of our goods, any chemicals and dyes are managed responsibly and ethical business standards are upheld like no discrimination is practiced in their business.

  • Packaging

Many of our products come in fabric bags which can be used for so many things (think gift bag, bread bag, travel bags - the list goes on!). And we know shipping pretty parcels around the globe can be a high carbon foot-print game to play. We aim to keep our shipping packaging as planet-friendly as possible with water soluble packing peanuts, recycled paper package inserts and compostable postage satchels. Products are ever-evolving in this space so we are committed to continue to explore more ways that can reduce wastage in our shipping process.

  • Recycling & going paperless

We are almost paperless in the way we work and work with businesses that ensure as much waste as possible is recycled or can be reused. Soft plastics, polystyrene and cardboard, even our loo paper is 100% recycled FSC-certified. If you're looking to love your bum, check out our friends at Yarn’n. We also focus on sourcing second hand and vintage furniture for our offices and photoshoots to help support the circular economy, give new life to furniture otherwise destined for land fill.

  • Vegan friendly

We understand feather filled cushions aren't for everyone so we also offer options of vegan friendly micro-polyester and insert-free cushion covers (which also minimises extra packaging!).

  • Solar

Who doesn't love a little sunshine? Our HQ has solar panels which are generating additional kWhs everyday, helping use the sun to power our facility.

Our community

We couldn't do what we do without our wonderful community of design conscious people around us. We are so grateful for the belief others have shown in us. This belief and support is what has allowed us to flourish as people, a business and a brand. And so, it's only fitting that we pay this belief forward in supporting Womens and First Nations initiatives. Here's how:

Partnerships

We partner with Fitted for Work, volunteering time and donating products for their Conscious Closet store. Fitted for Work a wonderful organisation with a mission to help women, non-binary and gender-diverse jobseekers prepare for new job opportunities and thrive through various programs including mentoring, training and everything they need to and lean in with confidence.

Gifting

We support the incredible work of organisations like Geelong Mums, Bunjilwarra Residential Rehabilitation, Cancer Council, Eastern Health, Northwestern Mental Health and Mission Australia with bedding, blankets, baby essentials, clothing and more.

Fundraising

We've raised money for charities like Refuge Victoria, Oxfam Trailwalker, Bushfire Relief, the Heart Foundation and Pink Stumps Day.
